I am not a family counselor in the true sense of the word, though I was deeply affected by the work of Virginia Satir, Murray Bowen and Salvador Minuchin.
My work with families is focused on the healing of wounds or resentments from the past. Typically my family counseling clients are parents and adult children who are trying to heal some wounds that have come between them. Sometimes it is resolving the after-effects of addictions. Or it could be the resolution of long-standing resentments.
I believe that there can be huge benefit to us all if we find a way to make peace with our families, as long as we are able to do that with integrity and honesty.
Because it can be difficult for a family to heal on its own, I think it is more than appropriate to ask someone like myself to help with the process.
